Year-by-year net foreign portfolio investment in Indian equity markets — from 2002 to present. See which years saw the biggest inflows and outflows, and how the cumulative position has grown.
Net investment figures represent the annual total of FPI equity purchases minus sales in Indian markets. A positive value means foreign investors were net buyers for that calendar year. A negative value means net selling exceeded buying.
Values are in USD Million. Years with large positive flows (2007, 2010, 2012, 2020) typically coincided with strong global risk appetite and India-specific growth optimism. Negative years (2008, 2011, 2018, 2022, 2025) reflect global risk-off episodes, rising US interest rates, or domestic macro concerns.
